Overview

Are you interested in our research and are looking for a position as a graduate student or as a postdoctoral research associate? If yes, you might want to explore the possibility of research in our group. We offer a very simulating environment and work hard at pushing the boundaries of science in our area. If this fascinates you and you have a specific idea about how you could contribute to our group, we would like to hear from you. If we think this is a good fit, we will work with you to apply for funding. If you are looking for postdoc funding, you can apply at various places for your own fellowship (e.g. NIH, NSF) or write a grant with the principal investigator. Graduate students and postdocs are expected to develop and implement their own independent research programs that interface with ongoing efforts in creative new ways.

In principle, undergrads can either work on predefined projects (listed below if available) or propose their own projects like grad students. If we think it fits well, then we will do what we can to accommodate such initiatives. Please think about how your interests and skills might fit in with the rest of the group before you send an email. This lab is computational only, meaning you will not improve any wet-lab skills you might have (unless you collaborate with other labs ). You will need to be able to tame computers at various levels if you want to succeed in our group.

Student jobs for credit or for experience

There are various student projects that could be done for credit or for experience. At the moment there are two types of such projects:

1. Compiling biochemical process rate estimates from scientific papers. Interesting for Biochemistry etc. students. You would work on building a detailed computational model of a biochemical reaction network that you are interested in based on what is already known, integrating various different aspects.
   
2. Implementing model simulation algorithms. Interesting for programming/math/engineering students. This is more involved. You would need to know something about stochastic simulation or ODE solvers and be good in C++ (or willing to learn) to make progress here.
